4 Apps for LEGO Lovers who Want to Build on the Go

Got a LEGO fanatic at home? Awesome! LEGOs aren’t just a blast to play with – they also foster creativity and hone problem-solving, organizational, planning, fine-motor, and critical thinking skills. (Phew!) The only downside to LEGOs? They’re not very portable. And they’re annoying to clean up. And if you don’t put them away, you’ll end up stepping on them… and that’s the WORST.

Here are a few apps for your LEGO-lover, when busting out the actual LEGOs just aren't an option:

LEGO City: My City 2

Blast off into outer space, explore the underwater world, catch thieves in a car chase – with a whopping 15 mini games, LEGO City: My City 2 has it all. As you progress, the levels increase in difficulty – win one, two, or three stars depending on how well you complete the level, a la Angry Birds. Simple controls of touch/tilt make it simple for even the youngest player to enjoy the game. What are you waiting for? Download this FREE app now!

LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4

If you’re a fan of the Harry Potter books and films, you’re going to adore LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4. Check out your favorite witches and wizards as LEGO characters – there’s over 167 to unlock! Roam the halls of Hogwarts, follow Nearly Headless Nick as he leads you to your missions, and learn spells and solve puzzles as you work your way through the school year. Easy enough for young players, but also offers a lot of secrets and challenges for more serious gamers. With the perfect balance of storytelling, guided missions, and free play, this game is truly magical. ($4.99 on the App Store)

LEGO Batman Movie Game

For fans of the caped crusader (and the hilarious LEGO movie that just came out), LEGO Batman Movie Game is the app for you!

Play as Batman and run, grapple, drive, and fly around Gotham City. Explore The Bat Cave, the streets and rooftops of Gotham, and even the Arkham Asylum. Try on a new costume (or 10) in Batman's legendary closet. Build your own custom vehicles and battle your favorite villains such as the Joker, Penguin, and Poison Ivy. And when Batman's tuckered out, revive him through the DJ Mini Game featuring music from the film.

(I'll probably enjoy this game way more than the kids.)

LEGO Creator Islands

Would your kids be able to survive being stranded in a desert island? As a parent, it's your job to give them the tools they need to succeed in life, and while you might not know how to gut a fish or tie various knots, you probably do have an iPad laying around somewhere...

In LEGO Creator Islands, your kiddo will get to explore their very own island. They'll learn building skills through putting together houses and various vehicles, practice their social skills while meeting the local minifigures and adorable creatures, complete mini missions, and even expand their island... This game is just like being stranded in a desert island in real life! If that day ever comes, your kids will surely thank you.
