5 Beauty Products that Fake a Good Night's Sleep

By Nikki M

One telltale sign of being a new mom? Looking pretty darn haggard. You didn't just bring home your little bundle of joy from the hospital – you also signed away your right to a decent night’s sleep, trading it for years of dark circles, under-eye bags, and a dull complexion.

While sleep training your little one may take some time, a few beauty products can give you instant gratification:

Face Mist

These concoctions of essential oils and natural ingredients increase your skin's hydration to give you that supple, dewy look. Mist after cleansing to tighten pores and help serums and creams sink in, or over your makeup to add a bit of a glow. Keep one in your purse and spray throughout the day – it's the perfect pick-me-up.

Try Caudalie's Beauty Elixir for a luxurious treat. It contains bitter orange flower water, rosemary leaf oil, peppermint oil, balm mint leaf oil, and grape fruit extract. For something a bit lighter, try Herbivore's Rose Hibiscus Face Mist. Made with coconut water, hibiscus flower extract and rose water, this mist is gentle, hydrating, and smells absolutely heavenly.

Tinted Moisturizers

As a mom strapped for time, multipurpose products are a godsend. Tinted moisturizers and BB creams offer many benefits: they're moisturizing, provide light coverage & contain SPF. You can easily apply them with your fingers, and they have a sheer finish (no cake-face!).

Korean favorite Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm has SPF 45 and is formulated with bio-peptide complex to provide anti-aging properties and boost natural collagen. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream is easier on the pocket, and contains zero oils or heavy ingredients, and comes with SPF 30.

Lip and Cheek Tint

Pick up a lip and cheek tint to add a bit of color to your face. These 2-in-1 products come in different formulas, such as liquid, gel, or cream.

Liquid tints last the longest, but are trickiest to apply. Be quick with your application and blend, blend, blend. Benefit Benetint is rose-tinted and comes in a cute glass bottle and a brush (similar to nail polish). Gel blushes are more sheer, making them fool-proof. Dior's Lip and Cheek Glow, comes in a gorgeous pink that adjusts to your skin tone.

Creams blend easily and are very versatile. Apply a sheer wash of color, or layer it on for a bolder look. We love Milk's Lip + Cheek stick – it's made with moisturizing mango butter and comes in flattering shades like coral, dusty rose and berry.

Highlighters / Luminizers

If you want to look well-rested, grab a highlighter or luminizer. Whichever you choose, avoid products with chunky glitter. You want to look fresh-faced, not like a disco ball.

The best highlighters are creamy and come stick form, like Glossier's Haloscope. It's made with 2 parts – an outer halo infused with crystals for shimmer, and core made with vitamin-rich oils for dewiness. Blend some on your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, on the inner corner of your eyes, and on your cupid's bow.

You could also get an all-over glow by mixing a few drops of liquid luminizer with your moisturizer or foundation. Try Josie Maran's Illuminizer, which is formulated with Argan oil and other flower-derived ingredients to brighten and even your skin tone.

Mascara

Mascara is a must if you want to look fresh and bright-eyed (even though you're dead inside). Skip the waterproof formulas that can leave your eyes irritated and are a pain to take off at night. Go for wands that "lengthen" and "thicken"... avoid anything too dramatic and clumpy.

RMS Lengthening Mascara is formulated with nourishing ingredients like organic bataua oil and carnauba wax, and doesn't smudge or flake throughout the day. Burt's Bees Nourishing Mascara contains Jojoba oil and Glycerin to condition your lashes. It's 100% natural and safe for the delicate eye area.
