8 Handmade Teething Necklaces to Soothe Baby

By Nikki M

We give up a lot of things as a new mom. Sleep, privacy, peace and quiet, adult conversations, our identity, our sanity, romance… We also give up wearing jewelry. There’s nothing like the excruciating pain when baby yanks off an earring, splitting your earlobe in half. Also, jewelry can be a poking and choking hazard.

Fortunately for you, there are teething necklaces, which not only allow you to regain some semblance of style… but are also safe for baby to pull on and put in their mouth. They’re usually made with natural wood or food grade silicone, which are comforting to chew on when baby’s teething.

There are also necklaces made with raw amber, which are made for wearing – NOT for chewing. They contain a high amount of succinic acid, which acts as an anti-inflammatory and relieves teething pain. The skin’s warmth releases the healing oils from the amber, which are then absorbed into the bloodstream. They’re safe, all-natural, and drug-free.

Bubuline’s minimalist teething necklaces are made from natural wooden beads polished with beeswax, and fixed on a crocheted string. They’re handmade by Cristina, a self-proclaimed hedgehog and maker of small things. Make sure to check out her adorable wooden pacifier clips, which also double as a teethers.

Amazing Day

Darta loves nature, and believes in the positive energy that comes from working with natural materials. Her teething necklaces are made with wooden beads, crocheted with organic linen and cotton threads. They add a fun pop of color to any outfit, and can be hand washed with a mild soap.

Momma Malas

Yogi mama Jenelle realized that she can no longer wear her malas (mala = a string of 108 beads used for meditation/counting mantras) unless she wanted beads all over the place, courtesy of her toddler. She created MommyMalas after a failed online search for safe, teething mala beads. MommaMalas teething necklaces are made with BPA-free silicone and natural, unfinished wooden beads on a thick cotton cord with a light wax finish. On the end is a beautiful cotton tassel. Perfect for zen mamas!

Freja Toys

Ukraine-based Freja Toys makes natural and eco-friendly products for babies. Their teething necklaces are made with applewood, beechwood, and juniperwood produced in the Carpathians, and organic, oeko-tex certified cotton yarn. The pendants are crafted by hand and finished with organic linseed oil.

Pebbles and Lace UK

Pebbles and Lace UK was founded by mom Sarah, after her daughter sprouted her first teeth and wouldn’t stop chewing on her fingers – mama's fingers, to be clear. These gorgeous sensory beads are made with food-grade silicone, and are secured on a strong satin cord with a breakaway safety clasp. These are made according to European safety standard, and are FDA-approved. If you had a specific color combo in mind, you can place a custom order.

Kangaroo Care

If you prefer pendants rather than beads all around, check out KangarooCare. These teething necklaces are 100% natural and handmade in Estonia, with each bead cut by hand. You can handwash the necklaces in soapy water, and rub them with a bit of vegetable or beeswax for added shine. And when your little one is done with the teething stage, you can use them as diffuser beads – just add a few drops of your favorite essential oils!

ANAmber Boutique

Ana lives by the Baltic sea, where she would collect small pieces of amber as a child. She has always loved the feeling of warm amber in her hands, and knew that she would one day create things with this beautiful material. Her raw, unpolished Baltic amber necklaces are absolutely stunning, and provide quick pain relief for baby. Each bead is secured with a safety knot, and the necklace fastens with a screw clasp.

Green Orange Violet

We adore these multicolored raw Baltic amber beads by GreenOrangeViolet. Handmade by mom-of-three Anna in Lithuania, each bead is separately knotted for safety, and the necklace is secured with a screw clasps. Fits kids from 6 months to 7-8 years old.
