Find the Right Wallpaper for a Kid's Room with Hygge & West

Once relegated to dour old-school décor, wallpaper is back in a big way. While there isn’t one specific trend – it’s all about embracing your own individuality – folks are papering fearlessly and including images and colors that make their heart and home happy. Contemporary wallpaper sets the mood it goes way beyond what any coat of paint can do. It’s the best, and most flexible, way to have that wow-factor of luxury and opulence or even cute quirkiness without breaking the bank.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for at Hygge & West, then chances are it cannot be found. Hygge (hoo-ga) is Danish for cozy and all of these papers are exactly that – inviting, warm, and comforting. What’s more, the owners and designers behind the name actually live with these wallpapers in their own homes – there are pics as proof! (Not to mention inspiration and ideas; they sure know how to decorate.)

This playful pattern is by Julia Rothman and it’s called Daydream (Sunshine). Use it to accent certain part of the room or cover everything from baseboard to ceiling as shown here. Hand-drawn birds and clouds float in this large scale, modern wallpaper pattern that mixes a classic design with contemporary colors (other hues available, too).

This wallpaper, called Cosmic Desert (in gold), is hand drawn by L.A. based designer and blogger Justina Blakeney. This pretty pattern is inspired by the twinkling night sky of the desert, where the clouds meet the sand and shooting stars cascade like magic. The stars are perfect to wish upon – and since the screen print is highly durable and fade resistant, it can handle plenty of wishes to come.

Moons (ebony) creates a bold statement with its metallic gold crescent moons, white stars and blue clouds on a soft black background which takes you deep into a celestial painted paradise – a cozy night’s sky filled with quiet wonder. Shown here in a nursery to create a sleepy-time atmosphere, it’s easy to imagine drifting off amongst the constellations.

Petal Pusher is poised for long-term showcasing from nursery to kiddie cave – it’s just that classic. Designed by Oh Joy!, Petal Pusher is shown here in dusty blue on an off white background. Bringing the timelessness of old floral woodcuts into a modern milieu, this look mixes a touch of vintage softness with bold pattern, glamorous color, and a hint of sparkle. Colors range from shimmering gold or graphic black on white to a soft blue, dove gray, blush, pearl, or taupe.

This intricately flourish-filled design is Foret, and shown here in cornflower blue (there are many, many variations on the color scheme to choose from – and good luck on that: they are all beautiful). Artist Julia Rothman’s design is inspired by Indian Chintz wall hangings from the 1600s, and updated for modern living spaces. The intriguing flowers, unique animals, and intricate vignettes are sure to keep you and your family delighted for years to come.

Yum! This wallpaper is called – you guessed it – Pineapple (shown in the sorbet design). Rifle Paper Co is the designer, and you get a myriad of mustard yellow pineapples, gray-blue leaves and peach florals on a true white background. Pineapples symbolize hospitality and a warm welcome to guests. It’s available in five unique color palettes with muted, metallic touches that shift in the light.
