Grieving over pets...THERAPY NEEDED??

I’m not sure if my son is especially sensitive or having trouble with grief. We had a guinea pig named Snicker Doodle for about 8 months before he got sick and died. He spent a lot of time with him and he was even in my son’s class for a week. My son often starts crying out of nowhere and it’s been 2 months since the guinea pig’s death. Do you think I should have him talk to a counselor?

Curious to know how this went. We're in a similar situation and II'm a bit at a loss. I don't even want to attempt movies where there's any kind of loss in it at this point.

Good idea below about getting kids' books, see if that helps first. We got a dog right before I had my eldest (17 now), and they pretty much grew up together. Our dog passed away when my daughter was about 9 and she did need to see a counselor.

Personally, I wouldn't go that far. I think just making sure to keep the lines of communication open and talk about whatever is bothering your son is important. You can always pick up some kids' books that deal with losing a pet to initiate that.
