Babywearing for New Moms: Our Favorite Wraps

By Nikki M

Want to wear your baby but can't stand the bulkiness of traditional carriers? Then check out the wrap! Free of buckles, straps, snaps, and rings, wraps are as minimal as it gets. A wrap is simply a long, stretchy strip of cloth, usually a blend of cotton and a small amount of spandex. To use it, you literally wrap the fabric around your body, creating a snug pouch for your little one.

Because baby wraps don't come with the extra hardware, they're highly customizable. They conform to your shape, and every part of it is adjustable. The most popular wrapping technique involves a front, inward-facing carry. But if neither you nor your baby find that comfortable, there are a ton of other ways to tie a wrap.

Solly Baby Wrap Carrier

The Solly Baby Wrap was created by Elle Rowley after 2 kids and bulky carriers that left her feeling like a packhorse. She wanted something comfy and stylish that would still allow her to run after her toddler. Solly Baby Wraps are made with certified Lenzing modal, which is a lightweight, buttery-soft, and eco-friendly fabric. Everything is US-made, down to the packaging. We love their selection of elegant, muted shades, as well as their fun collabs (Rifle! Rachel Pally! Oh Joy!)

Boba Wrap

The Boba Wrap is made with a high-quality French terry material (95% cotton, 5% spandex), which is wonderfully soft and extremely durable. This wrap can be used without a minimum weight requirement, making it an excellent choice for smaller babies or preemies, and can accommodate toddlers up to 35 pounds. Their support site offers many video tutorials—including how to nurse with the wrap on!

Ergobaby Wrap Carrier

Ergobaby is known for creating the ultimate baby carrier—so when we heard that they came out with a wrap, we had very high expectations. Needless to say, it truly exceeded them! This wrap is made out of a high tech 4D stretch material that flexes in four directions. This "hybrid wrap" combines the benefits of a stretchy wrap with a breathable, extra durable woven wrap. We love how this doesn't sag throughout the day, and we're absolutely smitten with the two-tone, earthy colors they come in.

JJ Cole Agility

This is no ordinary wrap. The JJ Cole Agility is a cross between a traditional wrap and a baby carrier, without the added snaps and buckles. You put it on like a shirt (the back looks just like a racer-back tank!) and simply adjust the front according to your carrying needs. This isn't a one-size-fits-all product— it comes in four sizes (S, M, L, XL) for maximum comfort and optimal back and shoulder support. We highly recommend this for beginners who want a customizable wrap, yet also desire the straightforwardness of a carrier.

Moby Wrap Baby Carrier

This bestseller is made with supremely soft, 100% all-natural cotton. The wrap is 18 feet long, and its ends are cleverly tapered, making them perfect for tying secure knots. The fabric spreads wide to offer optimal knee-to-knee support for your little one, and great shoulder support for you. Because of the even weight distribution, this wrap is comfortable to wear for hours on end.

Nuroo Pocket

The Nuroo Pocket is an absolutely ingenious product. It's a blouse that lets you practice skin-to-skin contact! It comes in an ultra-soft, breathable, moisture-wicking fabric with just the right amount of compression. It has a non-slip interior pocket for baby's legs, closures throughout for security, and comes with a belt for additional support. No more fumbling around with tricky knots and wrapping techniques. You can also wear this as a maternity top before birth, and as a postpartum nursing top (the compression belt is especially wonderful after birth).

Baby K'Tan Baby Wrap

The K'Tan Baby Wrap isn't your typical wrap. The secret lies in its innovative double-loop design— you simply put it on, and pull the fabric over your baby depending on your preferred carrying method. No complicated wrapping and knotting here! It comes with an adjustable back support band and an additional sash (that doubles as a storage bag) for extra support. It's made with a 100% cotton knit fabric, free of harmful chemicals. It's machine washable and dryer safe. We absolutely recommend this product for the benefits of a wrap, but with the ease of a sling.
