Best All-Terrain Strollers for Trailblazing Families

By Nikki M

Got a thirst for adventure? Spend a bulk of your family time in the great outdoors? If your idea of fun means getting down and dirty, then you'll need an all-terrain stroller for your wild escapades.

The Good

  • Smooth Ride: Large, pneumatic (air-filled) tires let you sail through bumpy terrain effortlessly, while keeping your baby safe and comfortable.
  • Maneuverable: Unlike jogging strollers that have fixed wheels, all-terrain strollers have swivel wheels that let you turn on a dime.
  • Durable: Crafted with heavy-duty materials, these strollers are built to withstand years of rough use.
  • Versatile: From sandy beaches to grassy parks, rocky trails to snowy paths, all-terrain strollers work in any setting — even on smoothly paved sidewalks and streets! Most can even be used for jogging by simply locking the front wheels.

The Bad

  • Heavy: Built to be tough and sturdy, the last thing you'll get is a lightweight piece of gear.
  • Bulky: These tend to be larger than your average stroller, so don't expect the most compact fold. May not fit in a small car trunk.
  • Pricey: Premium, hard-wearing materials + durable construction + sporty design = $$$$$

Best For

Adventurous families. A versatile main stroller. Off-roading, hikes, and even runs. Perfect on grass, sand, gravel, dirt, snow, and much more.

Our Favorites

BOB Revolution Flex

With its state-of-the-art adjustable suspension system, high-impact polymer composite wheels (we hear Audis are switching over), and pneumatic tires and tubes, the BOB Revolution Flex offers one incredibly smooth ride.

Its front swivel wheel locks for stability when jogging or for handling tougher terrain. Features include an adjustable handlebar, an ultra-padded reclining seat with a 5-point harness, a large canopy with a viewing window, a huge storage basket and seatback pocket, as well as a convenient, 2-step fold.

Bugaboo Buffalo

When a luxury stroller manufacturer rolls out a robust, all-terrain model in their lineup, you know it's going to be excellent. The Bugaboo Buffalo was designed for parents who love adventure — urban, rural, and everything in between! It can handle any terrain thanks to its large, swivel wheels and cushiony, air-filled tires.

Just like the other Bugaboo strollers, the Buffalo is designed to be modular. The toddler seat converts into a bassinet, making it suitable from birth (it's never too young to start!). It's got a one-handed seat recline/reverse/release, a height-adjustable handlebar, a rotating carry handle, a storage basket that can hold up to 35 pounds, and an incredibly compact, self-standing fold. Highly customizable, you can mix and match chassis, seat, and canopy colors.

Bumbleride Indie

The Bumbleride stroller offers the benefits of an all-terrain jogging stroller, while maintaining sleek looks and intuitive operation. It's the perfect, versatile stroller for the modern parent.

Features include a lockable inline front wheel for running, a reclining seat with an adjustable footrest, a large, SPF 45 canopy to protect your kiddo from harmful UV rays, and an oversized cargo basket for all your essentials.

The seat is made from a moisture-absorbing, temperature-regulating bamboo blend fabric, great for keeping your little one nice and cool. The Indie folds impressively compact and weighs a mere 20 pounds. A 4-wheel version is also available.

Instep Safari

The Instep Safari is a great all-terrain stroller that won't break the bank. It has large, pneumatic tires and a swiveling front wheel that locks for jogging. Features include a slip-resistant rubberized handle grip, a dual-trigger folding mechanism for safety, a convenient, pivoting child tray, a handy parent tray with two cup holders, and an ample storage basket.

This stroller comes in a double version– you know what they say, the more the merrier!

Jane Trider Extreme

With its anti-puncture rubber tires, adjustable suspension, high-sitting reversible seat, and included Micro bassinet, your little one will stay comfy and secure, leaving you with no excuses to skip out on the fun!

The high-grade aluminum frame is extremely durable yet lightweight to push and lift. You'll love the one-handed maneuverability thanks to its 3-mode front swivel wheel, which can even be locked for stability when running.

The 16-inch air-filled rear tires have magnificent, shock-absorbing suspension and all-purpose tread for the best traction. Features include an easy-reclining seat with a bumper bar, a zip-covered gear tray, large, adjustable canopy, storage pockets all over, two bottle holders to keep you and baby hydrated, a non-slip comfort grip handle, and a self-standing, auto-lock fold.

Phil & Teds Sport

The Phil & Teds Sport is a superb, modular all-terrain stroller. Got two kiddos in tow? No problem! With over 26 seat configurations, you can experiment and find the best setup for your needs.

The 12-inch air-filled tires and lockable front swivel wheel are great for off-roading, but its ultra-light handling and unmatched curb pop are also excellent for conquering the city streets.

We love its slim profile (perfect for narrow doorways and busy sidewalks!), extra-tall seat height, hands-free auto-stop brake, roomy storage basket and canopy pockets, and one-hand fast fold.

Stokke Trailz

Its large, air-filled tires with advanced suspension ensure a smooth ride for your little one, while lockable front swivel wheels and an ergonomic handle allow for optimal maneuverability.
